- Tales from the Clinic - A Portrait of Joey: "... over the next several months, Joey didn't develop as he should. He was eating, sleeping and growing properly, but his movements were labored and uncoordinated and he had trouble focusing his eyes. His cry didn’t sound quite right. After a prolonged examination, his pediatricians said Joey had cerebral palsy, probably brought on by birth trauma and the difficult and protracted labor. They told Joey’s parents that he would never walk and probably never talk. He would certainly never go to school or play baseball. He would never ride a bike or play games and possibly would never even recognize his own parents.
